420 with CNW — Amid Congressional Inaction, NY Governor Enacts Measure Easing Cannabis Banking
Last week, Governor Kathy Hochul of New York signed into law a measure that eases the process through which financial institutions can work with legal marijuana businesses. The bill was sponsored by Assembly member Crystal Peoples-Stokes and Senator Jeremy Cooney. It permits the Office of Cannabis Management to offer information about legal cannabis business applicants or licensees to financial institutions. The objective is to make it easier for businesses to comply with antimoney-laundering laws and filing of activity reports required for every marijuana-related transaction at the federal level.
