Chellie Pingree filed a measure which will make some crucial reforms to the hemp industry, including increasing the legal threshold for THC in hemp products to 1% from 0.3% on a dry weight basis. The measure, dubbed the Hemp Advancement Act, would also address an issue associated with levels of THC for in-process hemp. A recent report by Deloitte Canada states that marijuana has contributed more than $43 billion to the country’s gross domestic product (“GDP”). Since recreational marijuana was legalized in 2018, it has also contributed more than $13 billion to Ontario’s GDP.
