Marijuana Officials Want Minnesota Lawmakers to Authorize Temporary Industry Licenses

Marijuana officials in the state of Minnesota are urging lawmakers to consider amendments to licensing processes to help meet its retail cannabis sales goals. Charlene Briner, the interim director of the Office of Cannabis Management, stated in a recent webinar that the agency was focused on hiring staff and building infrastructure needed to oversee the legal marijuana marketplace. Regulators plan to test how efficient an online license application system designed for businesses works in the spring. Briner also revealed that she was hopeful that when legislators resumed their legislative session, they would amend the law to allow for a successful…

420 with CNW — Senate Democrats Implore Feds to Remove Marijuana from CSA

In a recent letter to the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), 12 Senate Democrat legislators have urged President Joseph Biden’s administration to reconsider federal cannabis restrictions as the agency contemplates cannabis rescheduling. The letter, signed by the Senate Majority Leader and spearheaded by Senators Elizabeth Warren and John Fetterman, highlights the strong argument in favor of taking cannabis out of Schedule I. The senators suggest removing it completely from the CSA in addition to downgrading its classification. In August 2023, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HSS) recommended moving marijuana from Schedule I to III of the Controlled…

Florida Legislative Committee Passes Preemptive Bill Capping Adult-Use Cannabis Potency

Legislators on the House Healthcare Regulation Subcommittee recently approved a resolution that would impose a THC cap on adult-use marijuana products. THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) is one of the two primary compounds found in marijuana, with the other being CBD (cannabidiol). However, unlike THC, CBD doesn’t induce a high when ingested. The approved resolution, HB 1269, contains an amendment that increased the proposed limit on THC for cannabis flower from 10% to 30%. Representative Ralph Massullo, who introduced the resolution, stated that his proposed cap on THC was based on the fact that not much was known on the potential long-term harms…

420 with CNW — DEA Settles Lawsuit, Agrees to Rehire Agent Fired for Positive CBD Test

The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) recently rehired an agent that was fired almost five years ago after the agent tested positive for tetrahydrocannabinol during a drug screening. Anthony Armour, the agent in question, was terminated in 2019 by the federal agency. In 2023, Armour filed a suit against the agency in the Federal Circuit’s Court of Appeals, arguing that the DEA had no grounds to fire him without any evidence that he’d intended to break the law. In his suit, Armour asserted that he was using what he thought to be a hemp product that was federally legal as…
