420 with CNW – Dutch Government Starts Recruiting Farmers to Take Part in Marijuana Experiment

On Tuesday, the Dutch Justice Ministry announced that growers who wished to take part in the Dutch government’s regulated marijuana experiment can sign up to apply from July 1. The project, which will see a maximum of 10 growers licensed to produce a variety of marijuana products, has been designed to remove the gray area surrounding coffee shops. Although they have permits to sell marijuana, most of them rely on an illegal circuit of suppliers as production and distribution of marijuana is prohibited. "The government wishes to initiate an experiment involving the cultivation of cannabis for recreational use. The purpose…

420 with CNW – Bermuda Government Seeks Public Feedback on Marijuana Legalization Bill

Last year, Bermudan lawmakers released a draft bill aimed at creating a legal cannabis program and asked the public to offer pertinent feedback. The draft legislation was met with criticism from the public as people felt it imposed excessive regulations, and they argued that the territory should legalize marijuana altogether for adult use. On Wednesday, the government of Bermuda released a draft bill to establish a legal marijuana market, and it is again seeking feedback from the public. Under the proposed bill, adults 21 and older would be able to possess and purchase up to seven grams of marijuana from…

420 with CNW – Research Shows Marijuana Users Not at Higher Risk of Workplace Accidents

For the past few years, cannabis has become more mainstream as attitudes and perceptions towards it change. Plenty of states have legalized either medical and recreational use or both, making it widely accessible. However, not everyone is on the cannabis train, and plenty of employers aren't willing to hire staff who indulge in marijuana, either medically or to unwind. They have been encouraged in part by several studies that have found a correlation between marijuana use and workplace accidents. The results of such studies have come into question after new research showed that marijuana users aren't at a higher risk…

420 with CNW – Why Some People May Not See Results After Consuming CBD

Over the past few years, cannabidiol (“CBD”) has gained the reputation of a cure all, and marketers have leaned quite heavily into it. Plenty of companies that process and sell CBD have taken to making all kinds of medical claims to attract customers. However, the truth of the matter is that a large portion of the evidence backing CBD’s medical abilities is anecdotal, and the cannabis extract definitely won’t fix all your health issues. It has become immensely popular in recent years, with CBD gummies being the third most searched for food in 2018. What a lot of marketing campaigns…

420 with CNW – Federal Financial Regulator Says Marijuana Banking is a Difficult Issue

Despite being federally prohibited, the state-legal marijuana industry has been growing steadily for the past few years. Things haven’t been rosy for the often controversial sector, and the fact that marijuana is illegal at the federal level has made it challenging for businesses to operate. Admittedly, the biggest hurdle that the industry has faced is lack of access to banking. Fearing legal retaliation from the federal government, most banking institutions avoid marijuana businesses, locking them out of accessing credit or loans and forcing them to operate on a cash-only basis. There have been numerous calls from stakeholders and advocates to…

Last month, Uruguay-based Fotmer Life Sciences exported a large shipment of medical cannabis to Portugal. This came about six months after Fortmer shipped one metric ton of high-THC cannabis flower to the same country. The 2019 shipment of high-THC flower was believed to have been the largest ever amount of cannabis flower exported in a single shipment, but weighing in at 3,133 pounds, the May shipment takes the cake. According to Uruguayan documents dated May 19, 2020, the declared customs value of the latest shipment was about $2 per gram, including costs, insurance and freight. Although no company has publicly…

420 with CNW – The White House is Reviewing FDA Research Guidelines on Marijuana and CBD

For the past year or so, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (“FDA”) has been under mounting pressure from advocates and stakeholders to create a comprehensive regulatory plan for the growing CBD industry. Although the nascent industry is already worth millions in sales and filled with tons of sellers, it is barely regulated. Not only has this made it difficult for businesses to operate, but it has called into question the efficacy and safety of the products being sold. Last week, the agency submitted a draft of a federal plan for marijuana and CBD research titled 'Cannabis and Cannabis-Derived Compounds:…
