Missouri’s Booming Marijuana Industry Eclipses Other State Markets

The recreational marijuana market in the state of Missouri has already hit $1.4 billion, less than 2 years since its launch. Voters in the state approved Amendment 3, a ballot initiative that legalized recreational marijuana in November 2022. Medical dispensaries were then given the go ahead to expand into recreational sales in February 2023. The market’s current valuation is higher than states that’ve legalized the drug for longer periods, like Nevada, Colorado and Arizona. During a recent conference, LKP Impact Consulting CEO Laurie Parfitt discussed the state’s burgeoning recreational market. The conference, held in St. Louis, brought together over 1000…

420 with CNW — German Marijuana Club Hands Out Legal Cannabis as Pilot Program Kicks Off

Germany recently saw its first cannabis social club—Social Club Ganderkesee—announce the distribution of cannabis to its members, marking a new milestone in the country’s journey toward regulated marijuana access. The nation legalized the possession and personal cultivation of marijuana for adults in April. However, until recently, there were limited legal means for acquiring the substance. Social Club Ganderkesee started growing cannabis in July after receiving a permit from Lower Saxony’s Agriculture Minister, Miriam Staudte. According to Daniel Keune, the club’s chairman, the membership represents a broad demographic, ranging from 18 to 70 years old. Each social club is restricted to…

CDC Study Suggests Construction Workers, Creatives and Food Prep Personnel Highly Likely to Use Marijuana

A recently conducted analysis has determined that workers in the hospitality and food service industries are some of the most common consumers of marijuana. Workers in extraction and construction, as well as individuals in media, sports, entertainment, arts and design occupations also reported relatively high rates of past-month marijuana use. The analysis was conducted by investigators at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and is based on data from the agency’s Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System. This survey, which primarily focuses on behaviors and health conditions, started collecting data from respondents about their occupation status and employment in 2013.…

US Jurisdictions that Voted on Marijuana Legalization Could Generate $3 Billion Upon Launch

Different jurisdictions across America voted on initiatives to legalize marijuana on Election Day. Voters in the states of Florida, North Dakota and Nebraska voted on measures to legalize adult-use and medical marijuana this month. A recently conducted analysis projects that the new markets could jointly generate $3 billion in their first year of sales. The analysis shows that the majority of the projected revenue would come from Florida if voters approve recreational sales by passing Amendment 3. Consumers are expected to spend about $2.9 billion on recreational cannabis once the new market is launched in Florida. By the fourth year,…

DEA Judge Postpones Cannabis Rescheduling Hearing to Next Year

The DEA recently revealed that a hearing on cannabis rescheduling is being delayed until next year. This news comes after the agency’s administrator Anne Millgram gave the stamp of approval for more than 24 witnesses to take part in the hearing this coming week. Soon after this, Chief Administrative Law Judge John Mulrooney gave a preliminary order indicating that the data provided on those supposed to testify was inadequate and requested additional details. Multistate Operators and Their Contribution to the Marijuana Industry

The rise of marijuana multistate operators has increased concerns that independent cannabis business owners may be driven out of business by organizations that have more money, power, and influence. Despite the negative way multistate operators are perceived, most take significant risks and work with local as well as state legislators to develop infrastructure and expand cannabis access in the U.S. By understanding the roles of multistate operators, independent businesses can use their work to their advantage. For instance, they have helped launch legal markets in jurisdictions that may not have been possible. A good example of this is the successful…

Study Says Marijuana Use During Pregnancy Impacts Impulse Control, Aggression in Kids

A new study has discovered that prenatal exposure to marijuana is linked to poorer thinking skills and behaviors like planning, paying attention, and impulse control in early childhood. These skills, the researchers explained, play a crucial role in how children interacted with others and performed at school. The study was carried out by researchers at Nationwide Children’s Hospital, with their objective being to investigate the link between prenatal marijuana exposure and aggressive behavior and executive function at age 5. The researchers used a cohort of 250 children for their study, 50 of whom were White while 155 were African American/Black.…

Bipartisan Senators in Florida Blame DeSantis for Using Taxpayer Funds to Oppose Cannabis Measure

Bipartisan senators in Florida are criticizing Gov. DeSantis for using taxpayer funds to finance anti-cannabis advertisements opposing a measure to legalize cannabis. This news was first brought to the public by an independent journalist, Jason Garcia, who commented on the possible use of the opioid funds for cannabis-related public service announcements. Soon after, reports from the Tampa Bay Times confirmed that state funds from a settlement fund to help alleviate the opioid crisis were allocated to a 3rd party marketing firm for ads. This is despite the fact that the settlement’s terms specifically state that the funds are meant to…

Could This Third Attempt to Legalize Adult-Use Marijuana in North Dakota Succeed?

Campaigners who managed to put a measure to legalize adult-use marijuana in North Dakota know that success isn’t done and dusted. The voters have rejected similar measures in the recent past; in 2022 and also back in 2018. Those working to enact marijuana policy reforms know that they have to do things differently in order to ensure that their third attempt is the charm. Steve Bakken, who heads the group that is working to see Measure 5 get voter approval next month, says they must be careful to avoid creating the impression among voters that should marijuana prohibition end, a…
