420 with CNW — Activists to Hand Out Cannabis at Coronavirus Vaccination Sites to Encourage Higher Turnout

D.C. Marijuana Justice, a group of marijuana activists, has devised a way to persuade more individuals to be vaccinated against the coronavirus: give them cannabis.

In 2014, the organization had planned and executed Initiative 71 on that year’s ballot, which led to the legalization of marijuana possession and its cultivation in Washington, DC. The group is now planning a marijuana giveaway at vaccination sites throughout the city. While the sites have not been made known, the group is preparing volunteers who will be distributing free cannabis baggies at various vaccination centers once the program begins operating.

According to Adam Eidinger, the organization’s co-founder, the group hopes to have gathered five pounds of cannabis by the time distribution begins. Currently, local marijuana cultivators have promised three marijuana pounds to the giveaway.

The organization is also planning to give away local marijuana strain seeds as an added bonus. The seeds, which are nicknamed “Grasso’s Green,” were named after David Grosso, former DC councilmember and and avid  marijuana advocate. Grosso stated that he was honored to loan his name to the local strain, adding that it was totally cool.

Eidinger explained that he wanted the giveaway to act as an educational opportunity, adding that he hoped it would attract more individuals to the city’s centers for vaccination. Eidinger said that many individuals were against getting the coronavirus vaccine, marijuana users and the public alike. He asserted that if an individual believed in the science that backed medical marijuana, there should be no reason why one shouldn’t believe the science that backed the effectiveness of the COVID-19 vaccine. He then added that marijuana had a way of uniting people.

DCMJ had hoped to give away joints during president-elect Joe Biden and vice president-elect Kamala Harris’ inauguration as it had during former president Donald Trump’s inauguration. However, the coronavirus pandemic as well as other safety and health factors removed that option from the table.

Eidinger stated that in 2017, the group gave out more than 10,000 joints, which they rolled by themselves. Because many joints handed out during the event were smoked on site, which violated city law, the group planned to hand out loose marijuana this time around. This would have helped eliminate the health risks presented by hand-rolled joints.

Instead, the free cannabis baggies will be distributed from a safe distance outdoors in individual bags, which will be handled by volunteers wearing gloves and masks.

Meanwhile in nearby Canada, cannabis flower is king on the market even though extracts account for just 13% of cannabis products sold. It is in this market segment that Pure Extracts Technologies Corp. (CSE: PULL) (OTC: PRXTF) has found its niche. The company is the outright leader in cannabis extraction, and this enviable position has allowed PURE to do business with other licensed cannabis entities in Canada and around the world.
