420 with CNW – How to Prep for Your First Trip to a Cannabis Dispensary

The past few years have been good to cannabis. Across the globe, attitudes towards the controversial plant are changing and plenty of territories have legalized cannabis in various capacities. In America, 11 states allow recreational marijuana use for adults over the age of 21 while 31 states have legalized medical cannabis. Research has found that marijuana has a variety of health benefits, from relieving chronic pain and regulating and treating diabetes to alleviating anxiety and slowing the development of Alzheimer’s.

More and more people have been turning to cannabis to help cure what ails them, and if you haven’t been to a cannabis dispensary yet, chances are you will pretty soon. However, visiting a cannabis dispensary is an experience that’s unique to the industry, and you will have to do some prep for your first visit to be successful.

For starters, why do you want to purchase medical cannabis? Cannabis is effective against a wide range of medical conditions, and what you’re trying to treat will dictate the kind of cannabis you will buy. For example, are you looking to relieve some pain? Or do you want something to help you relax and get a good night’s rest?

What’s more, you will have to consider how you want to take the product. Most dispensaries offer a wide selection of edible, smokable and topical products, each tailored for a specific function. Smokable and topical products take effect rather quickly, while edibles take anywhere from 30 minutes to three hours. Incidentally, you will have to have an in depth discussion about dosage and other suggestions with the budtender if you opt for edibles.

A budtender is the resident expert on all things cannabis, and they will help you navigate the menu and offer you guidance on how best to consume whichever products you buy.

Additionally, make sure you bring your ID and your medical marijuana card. Recreational dispensaries won’t ask for a medical marijuana card but you will need your ID or driver’s license to prove you are at least 21 years old.

Bring plenty of cash as well. Due to federal prohibition, banking institutions avoid working with the cannabis industry, forcing most businesses to operate on a cash only basis. Some dispensaries use alternative payment services like Hypur and Alt Thirty Six, but you’ll have to download their apps and link your checking account to it.

As your budtender will tell you, getting to the perfect strain’s dosage is a trial and error process. Cannabis affects everyone differently, and your journey won’t be like anyone else, so be patient, and follow the instructions diligently.

Armed with the tips above, your first trip will change from a nervous one to an adventure! And, as sector players like Green Growth Brands Inc. (CSE: GGB) (OTCQB: GGBXF) always say, there is never such as thing as too much information when it comes to cannabis.
