420 with CNW — Study Shows Mystical Experiences Are Intensified When Users Combine Psychedelics with Cannabis

New research has found that cannabis intensifies the experience of psychedelics by increasing the substances’ effects. The research was conducted by scientists at Imperial College London, with its findings being published in the “Psychopharmacology” journal.

For their study, the researchers conducted an analysis of online surveys submitted by more than 300 people who gave descriptions of different aspects of their experiences with psychedelics and reported whether they had used marijuana together with these substances and, if so, the quantity they used.

The researchers discovered that using cannabis with substances such as mescaline, ayahuasca, DMT, LSD or psilocybin simultaneously increased the intensity of the trip. The study states that the use of marijuana combined with psychedelic substances was linked to more intense experiences, with researchers finding that the more cannabis an individual used, the more intense the psychedelic trips were.

The study also found that those who consumed lower doses of marijuana together with psychedelics had less-challenging experiences in comparison with those who didn’t use cannabis, adding that those who consumed higher marijuana doses had more challenging experiences.

For their research, the scientists asked participants to take part in a couple of surveys a week before and a day after an experience with a psychedelic. The surveys covered a number of factors, which include ego dissolution, emotional breakthroughs and mystical experiences.

The researchers explain in their report that given the high rates of marijuana use together with the use of psychedelics, present research may have valuable suggestions for harm reduction as well as implications for therapeutic use.

The scientists note that the research had some limitations, including the fact that they didn’t observe the participants directly, which means that there was some uncertainty about the administration timing and the accuracy of the dosages that each participant reported. Despite this limitation, however, the researchers assert that this preliminary data will be useful for future studies.

In their report, the researchers also note that it was feasible that some people may use marijuana in an effort to modify the experiences or effects that are brought about by psychedelic substances. This is in much the same way that some marijuana users report self-medicating using marijuana to manage psychiatric symptoms.

The researchers add that future studies are required to better evaluate causal interactions between psychedelic substances and marijuana in respect to severe psychological effects. The researchers involved in the study include Robin L. Carhart-Harris, David Nutt, Mendel Kaelen, Eline Haijen, David Erritzoe, Fernando Rosas, Hannes Kettner and Joanna Kuc.

There is much more to be discovered about the effects of marijuana, and cannabis companies such as American Cannabis Partners may be vindicated when this substance is proved to be more beneficial than critics are currently willing to admit.
