420 with CNW — The Benefits, Drawbacks and Myths of Marijuana Consumption Methods

If you’re a regular marijuana user or are planning to join the club, then you know that the “how” you ingest the herb is a primary concern for many. It’s well known that the mental and physical benefits you may obtain from the herb largely depend on how the substance gets into your system.

To help you with this, let’s discuss the most common ways to ingest cannabis as well as the pros and cons of each method; we’ll also debunk some misconceptions and myths while we’re at it.

First, you should know that there are three main ways to consume marijuana: inhaled, topical or oral. The most popular of the three is inhalation. Despite the health concerns related to smoking, this is the most popular consumption method because of ease of access and almost-instant effects.

When a person inhales marijuana smoke, the compound enters their lungs before their bloodstream. You can smoke marijuana through these methods;

Blunts and Joints

This is the most basic way to smoke marijuana as it requires little equipment. Joints and blunts are portable, easy to use and affordable in comparison to other ways. However, those who have sensitive lungs may not prefer this method. Additionally, this equipment does require some skill on the part of the user.

Pipes

These are a standard tool for smoking weed and are often made from glass or wood. They are easy to carry, light and small. While they’re available in most smoke shops and lead to little or no THC loss, they break easily and warm up quickly.

Bongs

These are glass devices that filter and cool down the smoke, rendering it less harsh on your lungs. They’re also better for people with a high tolerance, as the hits are pretty strong. However, most bongs aren’t portable and require the user to change the water as often as possible to prevent the water from smelling.

Moving on to some myths.

  • While many people think that using a bong is better for your health because it filters out harmful elements from the weed, that may not be completely true. The water does trap some particulates and tar but not any potential carcinogens released by the cannabis.
  • Between joints and blunts, which is better? Turns out joints are. Blunts are simply hollowed-out cigars. If you’d like to make the move from both options though, you can try hemp wraps. Not only are they nonaddictive and natural, but they’re also 100% nicotine free.

All in all though, you should ingest cannabis in moderation. While these methods may be popular because of their immediate effects, none of them are free of harmful effects.

One company you should watch is Pure Extract Technologies Inc. (CSE: PULL). This company focuses on extracting plant compounds, and while Pure Extracts was initially attending to the marijuana industry alone, it has now spread its wings to psychedelics and functional mushrooms.
