420 with CNW – Cannabis Could Help Millennials Deal with Burnout

The World Health Organization describes burnout as a work-related health condition characterized by chronic stress, exhaustion, cynicism and a reduction in personal efficiency. More and more millennials are admitting that they are burnt out even if people from older generations generally regard this age-group as being composed of people who feel entitled, are irresponsible and cannot hold down a job (the way baby boomers could stay at the same job all their lives). Recent research shows that more millennials are self-reporting themselves as burnt out, and marijuana could help them deal with this condition.

While relaxation techniques like yoga and deep breathing can help to deal with the symptoms of burnout, a sizeable number of millennials are inquiring about how cannabis can help with this condition.

A marijuana dispensary owner in Toronto revealed that she sees more young people asking how marijuana can help them to combat stress, anxiety, depression and insomnia. These are the classic signs of burnout in these young adults who are bombarded daily by marketing messages which show them that their bodies aren’t good enough and need to be improved, 24/7 access to their smartphones means that they never get to plug out (in the same way that older people could take their landline phones off the hook if they didn’t want to be disturbed), and so many pressures unique to this era.

In 2018, Washington State University conducted research to find out how the individuals who reported that they were experiencing different symptoms of burnout, such as anxiety, stress and depression perceived the effect of smoking different quantities and strains of marijuana in helping them with those symptoms at home.

The researchers found that if people took at least ten puffs on a blend of marijuana which was high in THC and also high in CBD, they experienced higher levels of reduction in stress, depression and anxiety.

While this research may not on its own prove that marijuana is useful as a treatment for burnout, these findings provide a clear indication that the possibility exists and it should be explored further.

If larger randomized double-blind clinical studies confirm that marijuana can indeed treat the cocktail of symptoms linked to burnout, it could save millions of people from getting hooked on prescription medications for these symptoms. Analysts are convinced that industry players like VPR Brands LP (OTC: VPRB) and Wildflower Brands Inc. (CSE: SUN) (OTCQB: WLDFF) are waiting for research to confirm what they have always known about the effects of cannabis on burnout.
